RED SEA CORAL REEF
Red Sea Coral Reef
The Red Sea is largely an extension of the Indo-Pacific, however, geological events over millions of years have provided some unique aspects to its flora and fauna that make it stand out from other regions. There are around 300 hard coral species in the Red Sea. The highest species diversity is found along the Egyptian coast.
Type Of Corlas
Colonies of this morphology form plate-like structures. They can look like stacked plates such as tiers, curved, and more vertical resembling a vase, or a single table-like structure on a single pedestal.
they are flexible, moving with the motion of the current and swell.
Like the branches of a tree, many corals display this morphology, which requires secondary branching to be considered true branching, (i.e. branches spreading from the first branch). These secondary branches can be classified into subcategories including fingers, needles, and branchlets.
Any Massive corals grow into large spherical shapes that can withstand major physical stresses, such as hurricanes, and may survive for thousands of years. Others resemble a brain with winding and meandering walls that create patterns similar to those found in a mammalian brain.
Coral Bleaching
Coral bleaching is when corals die due to stress factors, like changes in temperature, light, or nutrients. They turn white when the helpful algae inside the corals leave due to the stressors.
